TV bed mattress guide: Everything you need to know before you buy
If you're wondering whether your mattress will actually work with a TV bed, the short answer is: certainly, yes. TV beds are built to work with standard UK mattress sizes, and the mattress itself has very little to do with how the TV mechanism operates. The part that can be affected by your mattress is the base - specifically, if you've chosen an ottoman TV bed for the extra storage space, where a heavier or thicker mattress means the gas-lift struts have a bit more to lift. In this guide, our experts will walk you through exactly what affects TV bed and mattress compatibility, what to look for when choosing a new mattress, and which of our own mattresses pair best with our TV beds. Does mattress thickness affect a TV bed mechanism? Mattress thickness doesn't affect the TV lift mechanism itself. On an ottoman TV bed, the TV cabinet and storage base are powered by two separate mechanisms that work entirely independently, so choosing a thicker or thinner mattress has no bearing on how smoothly your TV rises and lowers into the footboard. Having its own dedicated motor and bracket, and sitting in its own section of the frame, the TV lift simply never comes into contact with your mattress at all. Where mattress thickness does come into play is with the ottoman storage base, if your TV bed has one. This base uses gas struts (sometimes called gas lift pistons) to counterbalance the weight of the mattress and platform above it, so you can lift the whole thing with one hand rather than straining to heave it up yourself. Think of it like the boot of a car, or the seat of an office chair - the struts hold compressed gas that does most of the physical work, meaning the mattress and base feel almost weightless as they rise. The struts are rated to handle a certain amount of weight comfortably. A standard mattress within that rated range will lift smoothly with one hand. A much heavier or thicker mattress than the frame is designed for will make the base feel stiffer to lift, even though it won't stop the mechanism from working or causing damage on its own. You may simply need both hands to guide it, rather than one. What mattress should I use with a TV bed? There's no special TV bed mattress category - any mattress that suits you as a sleeper will suit your TV bed, as long as it's the right size for your frame. Some things to consider if you're choosing a new mattress include: Sleep position - Side sleepers tend to get on better with a softer or medium mattress that cushions the shoulders and hips, while back and stomach sleepers usually need something firmer to properly support the spine. Body type - Heavier individuals generally need a firmer mattress for adequate support, while lighter individuals often find a softer option more comfortable. Mattress type - Memory foam contours close to the body and relieves pressure points, which is worth considering if you suffer from joint pain. Pocket sprung mattresses offer more airflow and a traditional, responsive bounce, so they tend to suit people who run warm at night. Hybrid mattresses combine springs with a foam or latex comfort layer, giving you the best of both worlds! Temperature - If you run hot, look out for mattresses with Coolmax or other temperature-regulating technology built into the cover, which helps air circulate rather than trap heat against your body overnight. TV bed compatible mattress: What 'compatible' actually means ‘Compatible’ simply means the mattress is the correct UK size for your TV bed frame, and a sensible weight and depth for the gas-lift mechanism to handle comfortably. It isn't a special mattress category, and you don't need to look for mattresses specifically marketed as TV bed compatible to find one that works. Our TV beds are compatible with practically all standard UK mattress sizes, from single right through to super king, so you're not restricted to a narrow range if you're bringing your own mattress across from another bed. If you'd rather not think about matching sizes and weights yourself, buying your TV bed and mattress as a bundle takes the guesswork out of it entirely - the mattress is already confirmed to fit and work with the frame. However, if you'd prefer to choose your mattress independently, that's just as straightforward: pick your frame size, then filter our mattress range by the same size, and you're good to go! It's also worth deciding upfront whether you want an ottoman TV bed with storage or a non-ottoman frame. Both are fully compatible with any correctly sized mattress; the only difference is that non-ottoman frames have a fixed, non-lifting base, so mattress weight and depth simply aren't a consideration at all. Best mattress for a TV bed There isn't a single “best” mattress for every TV bed, and the right choice depends on how you sleep, what firmness you prefer, and whether temperature regulation matters to you. However, to help narrow your options down, consider: If you sleep hot: look for a mattress with Coolmax technology or natural, breathable fillings to help regulate your temperature through the night. If you want targeted support: a posturepedic mattress is designed to provide extra support to the lumbar region, which is worth considering if you deal with lower back discomfort. If you want a plush, hotel-style feel: a pillow-top mattress adds an extra layer of cushioned comfort on top of the core support layer. If you're not sure where to start: our own Nest mattress range is handcrafted in the UK and designed specifically to pair with our TV bed frames, so comfort and fit are taken care of from day one. We also stock a range of Sealy mattresses, including orthopaedic options for extra support and hospitality-grade mattresses for a more luxurious night's sleep, as well a selection of Silentnight mattresses. 5 genius bedroom TV ideas
Sleep experts have long advised against the use of screens, in any format, in the bedroom, but according to recent studies, over 50% of UK households have a TV in the bedroom. Regardless of what the experts say, though, there's no denying how good it feels to relax at the end of a stressful day with your favourite film or sitcom. And it makes all the difference when it fits in nicely with the rest of your room's decor. If you're investing in a new TV for your bedroom, or you want to optimise your existing layout, our experts at TV Bed have compiled five genius bedroom TV ideas to help you make the most of your space. 1. TV beds If you want to experience the magic of cinema from the comfort of your own bedroom, but don't want all the clutter that comes with it, a TV bed could be the ideal solution. The screen rises from the foot of the frame at the touch of a button, and tucks neatly away when you're done watching. No wall drilling, no unsightly wires, no clunky units hogging all the floor space... What more could you want? Our range of TV beds comes in several sizes – from single to super king – and a selection of fabrics to suit your style. Complete your setup with one of our Nest mattresses, handcrafted in the UK to pair perfectly with every frame we stock. 2. Bespoke media cabinets Media cabinets are an increasingly popular addition to modern homes, and if you don't have enough wall space to mount a TV, they're another great solution. Custom-built to fit any room, media cabinets maximise space by offering tailored storage, like shelves, cabinets, drawers, and (of course!) a dedicated space for your TV. They're also great if you don’t want wires, games consoles, and satellite boxes on show, as all cables will be neatly hidden inside. 3. Wall-mounted systems The quickest, simplest, and most affordable way to integrate a TV into your bedroom is by mounting it on the wall. Not only does this help you save money by eliminating the need to buy additional furniture, but it's also an excellent way to keep your room looking neat and tidy, as it frees up surface space. 4. Projector setups If you're looking for a portable, more affordable alternative to a traditional TV, why not invest in a projector setup? A projector can turn a blank wall into a huge screen; perfect for movie lovers who crave a cinematic atmosphere from the comfort of their own bedroom. Modern mini projectors can be moved around easily, and are simple to stow away when not in use. 5. Hidden screens Another great choice for those who prefer a more minimalist aesthetic, hidden TVs can be incorporated into your bedroom in many ways. Whether they're concealed behind wardrobe doors or made to look like a mirror or part of a gallery wall, hiding your TV will help keep your bedroom feeling calm and stylish, while giving you easy access to entertainment whenever you need it. What is the best-sized TV for your bedroom?
Choosing the right TV for your bedroom makes all the difference to how comfortable and enjoyable your viewing experience is. Unlike living rooms, bedrooms often have limited space, different viewing angles, and a more relaxed environment, so picking the right screen size isn't just about going bigger. From the size of your bedroom itself to how far your bed is from the screen, several factors can influence which TV will work best in your space. In this guide, our TV Bed experts walk you through the key things to consider when shopping around for your new bedroom TV, helping you find the ideal balance between size, comfort, and style! Why is TV size so important? Choosing the right TV size for your bedroom is critical, as it affects your overall comfort and immersive experience, given the limited, often horizontal, viewing position (lying down vs sitting up). A screen that's too small leads to squinting, while one that's too large can cause neck strain and disrupt your room's relaxing ambience. Things to consider when choosing a TV for your bedroom Bedroom size The size of your bedroom itself plays a huge role when determining the perfect TV size. For small bedrooms where space is at a premium, TVs ranging from 32 to 43 inches are ideal. For medium bedrooms, TVs between 43 and 55 inches strike the perfect balance between screen size and space If you're fortunate enough to have a large bedroom, opting for a screen that's 65 inches or larger can provide the ultimate cinematic experience. If you don't have the wall space or don't want your TV permanently on show, our TV beds are the ideal solution. With the screen hidden away in the foot of the frame when not in use, we have several sizes available that support screens up to 43 inches! Viewing distance Viewing distance is another crucial factor in selecting the perfect TV for your bedroom. To calculate the optimal viewing distance for your space, measure the diagonal screen size in inches, and multiply the result by 1.5 to 2.5 to find the best TV viewing distance, then convert to feet/cm. Screen size As we mentioned earlier, choosing the right size TV helps ensure a comfortable viewing experience. As a general rule, your TV size should complement both your room layout and how far the TV will be from your bed. 32-43 inches - Compact and well-suited to smaller setups or integrated solutions, like our TV beds. 43-55 inches - A versatile option that works well in many standard bedroom layouts. 65 inches and above - Ideal if you have the space and want a more immersive, cinematic experience. How to set up your TV for maximum comfort When setting up your new bedroom TV, choosing the right height and positioning is crucial for the best TV viewing experience. The ideal height for your bedroom TV is at eye level from your usual viewing position, typically lying down in bed. Mounting the TV too high can cause neck strain, whilst mounting it too low can impact your ability to view the screen comfortably. Adjust the height so the centre of the TV screen is aligned with your line of sight, enhancing angles and comfort. To reduce glare and reflections, position the TV away from direct light sources, such as windows and lamps. You should also consider a setup that allows for easy adjustment for different viewing positions, ensuring a flexible and enjoyable experience, whether you're lying down or sitting up. Need help choosing the perfect TV for your room? Need help choosing the perfect TV screen size for your bedroom, or calculating the ideal viewing distance from your bed? New year, new bedroom: The ultimate guide to your fresh start in 2026
The Christmas tree is back up in the loft, chocolates have long since been eaten, and presents are put away in their places. It can all only mean one thing... 2025 is behind us, and it's time to welcome the new year with open arms. For many of us, there's no better time to reinvent ourselves than the start of a new year, and if you’ve been scouring Pinterest for the latest bedroom ideas, 2026 should be the year you bring your visions to life. Our TV Bed experts share their top tips and favourite bedroom trends to help you create your dream sleep sanctuary, and how one of our TV beds can help you achieve the ultimate cosy vibe. Have a good declutter and deep clean The first steps to creating a relaxing sleep space are having a good declutter and deep clean of your bedroom. It’s not just general advice, but scientifically backed: a study from the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin found that higher levels of clutter in homes meant higher levels of the stress hormone, cortisol, compared to those with clearer spaces. Starting with a clear space sets you up for success, so get rid of anything – from clothes and accessories, to trinkets, books, and other items – that no longer serves you. Create keep, sell, donate, and toss piles to make this process easier. Once you've sorted through everything and found a place for items you're keeping, you can get to work cleaning. Leave no inch untouched – scrub from ceiling to skirting and make sure to give your floor a good hoover or sweep and mop to ensure everywhere is fresh for the months ahead. The end result? A space that helps with healthy sleeping habits thanks to the restful energy post-cleaning brings. Upgrade bedding and lighting Investing in new bedding and upgrading your lighting are two of the quickest, yet most effective, ways to achieve a fresh look in 2026. One of the biggest trends last year, which looks set to stay this year, was mismatched bedding. It may sound unorthodox, especially in a world full of ultra-modern, minimalist design choices, but it presents the perfect opportunity to add depth, character, and a sense of comfort to your bedroom without the need for major, expensive renovations. Complete the change with soft furnishings, like throw blankets and cushions, and you’ll find yourself all the more comfy! Rechargeable lighting is another thing that's gained immense popularity this year, for its portability, flexibility, and energy efficiency – offering cordless convenience not just in the bedroom, but everywhere around the home. Create a feature wall There are many different things you can do to create a feature wall, and by far the easiest – but by no means least impactful – is to go for a fresh coat of paint, in a contrasting colour. If the entirety of your space is painted a basic, neutral colour, like white or beige, opting for an earthy colour, like olive green, taupe, or an earthy brown shade behind your bed will instantly create the cosy vibe your space needs. You can also incorporate mirrors to reflect natural light and make your space feel larger, or create a gallery wall of your favourite photos of family, friends, and pets for more of a sentimental touch. Invest in a new bed If you're looking for a way to treat yourself in the new year, what better way to do it than with a brand new bed? One option that combines comfort and technology is a TV bed that houses a television in the foot of the frame. This can be raised at the press of a button when you want to watch your favourite shows, play video games, or listen to music videos, and lowered just as easily when it's time to hit the hay! A TV Bed, we stock a selection of sizes, colours, and styles – including surround sound TV beds and gaming TV beds – that are the perfect addition to any bedroom! Not only do TV beds help modernise your bedroom, though, but they're also the ideal choice for multi-functional spaces, too. The perfect blend of entertainment, storage, and space efficiency, a TV bed is sure to transform your room into a versatile haven for relaxation, work, and leisure, without adding clutter. If you're starting completely fresh, don't forget the mattress. Our range of Nest mattresses are handcrafted in the UK and designed specifically to work with our TV bed frames — so comfort and fit are guaranteed from day one. Upcycle outdated furniture If you've got old furniture lying around that's still in good condition and too good to part with, you can get creative with a little upcycling project. Whether it's a chest of drawers, bedside tables, a wardrobe, or a dressing table, don't underestimate the power of adding a fresh lick of paint or varnish and replacing the knobs/handles. It’s the perfect way to achieve a whole new look on a budget, and is guaranteed to make your space feel fresh for 2026! Need more bedroom ideas for 2026? Refreshing your bedroom doesn't have to be a mammoth, bank-breaking task. Whether you go all out on new bedding, breathe new life into your old furniture, or decide to treat yourself to one of our stunning TV beds, a fresh bedroom will set you up nicely for the rest of the year. Minimum mess, maximum style: The secret to a clutter-free bedroom
After a long, stressful day, there’s nothing better than getting cosy and jumping into bed. But nothing ruins that finally bedtime feeling like a cluttered space. The good news, however, is that creating a tidy, stylish sleep space isn’t as difficult as it may seem, and it doesn’t require a full renovation or ruthless ‘everything must go’ attitude. All it takes is a few simple changes and clever choices to transform your bedroom into a sanctuary that you actually want to spend time in. In this blog, our experts share their top tips for achieving maximum style with minimal mess, to help you create the peaceful, clutter-free haven you deserve. Why a clutter-free bedroom matters Put simply, a tidy room is a tidy mind. If you’ve ever found yourself struggling to drift off at night because your space feels chaotic, you’re not alone. Clutter – no matter how big or small – can increase feelings of stress, making it harder for your brain to switch off come bedtime. Not only can a cleaner, more organised bedroom improve your sleep quality, but it can also boost your overall wellbeing and visually enhance your space. But where to begin? Start with a simple declutter Creating a neat, tidy, and stylish bedroom starts with a good de-clutter. Focus first on the areas that tend to collect clutter, like bedside tables, dressing tables, windowsills, etc. Clearing these surfaces instantly creates a sense of order. It can also help to divide spaces into ‘zones’ – a place for sleep, to get ready, to relax. This makes it easier to decide which items belong where and helps you stay consistent over time. Choose storage that works smarter If clutter keeps creeping back, your storage setup may not be working hard enough for you, and you should opt for furniture that gives you maximum functionality without sacrificing space. This could include: Storage beds Underbed drawers or baskets Compact bedside tables Built-in or wall-mounted shelving And when you want a solution that saves space and elevates your decor, one of our TV beds with storage is an excellent option. With the TV tucked neatly away when not in use, and plenty of ottoman storage space, your room stays clean and streamlined – giving you more space, fewer distractions, and the perfect opportunity to unwind. Streamline your bed and bedding area Your bed acts as the focal point of your bedroom, so keeping this tidy does most of the heavy lifting. Fresh, cohesive bedding and supportive pillows instantly make your sleeping quarters feel more put together, and opting for calming, neutral colours can help reduce visual noise further. A well-made bed creates a hotel-style feel with surprisingly little effort, and if you’re looking for an upgrade, our range of luxury TV beds, mattresses, and bedding is designed to help you achieve a cosy, stylish finish. Style with intention A minimal, stylish room doesn’t need lots of decor – just the right decor. Choose pieces that complement your space rather than crowd it. A few well-chosen items make a much bigger impact than a hoard of small trinkets. Consider: A single statement piece Soft, warm lighting to create a relaxed atmosphere Wall art instead of surface decor A simple, cohesive colour palette to keep things calm and balanced Keep on top of your hard work A clutter-free room stays that way when you give it two minutes of attention each evening. Put everything back where it belongs, clear surfaces, and hang or fold clothes to help prevent the small messes from growing into bigger ones. This habit not only keeps your bedroom tidy but also becomes a calming part of your night time routine – helping your mind slow down and prepare for sleep. Bring minimalism and style together with one of our TV beds! Creating a clutter-free bedroom doesn’t have to be complicated. With thoughtful choices and simple daily habits, your space can become a relaxing retreat that supports better sleep, boosts your mood, and reflects your personal style. If you’re ready to upgrade your bedroom with furniture that blends design and functionality, our team at TV Bed is here to help. How to make your bedroom cosy for winter
The temperatures are dropping. Nights are getting darker. Summer is officially over. Whether you're excited for the seasons ahead, and all the festivities they bring, or dreading dreary weather and digging out your knitwear, getting your winter bedroom ready should be high up on your agenda to make autumn and winter that bit more enjoyable (or bearable, if you're more like the latter!) In this article, our experts at TV Bed explore our favourite bedroom ideas for winter, to help you make the most of the cosy season ahead. Up your duvet tog The nights can get super chilly, which means it's the perfect time to ditch your summer duvet and swap it for something a little thicker to keep you warm come bedtime. For winter, sleep experts recommend a duvet with a tog rating of anywhere between 13.5 to 15 – with 13.5 being the classic choice, and 15 perfect for if your bedroom gets particularly cold. However, everyone is different, so your final choice depends entirely on your personal preference and comfort level. Complete with a comfy matching duvet set, and you're good to go all season long! Opt for warm lighting Lighting really does make all the difference when it comes to creating a snug space for the winter months, and there are plenty of ways you can upgrade your setup. Simply switching your current bulbs for a warm-toned option instead can do the trick nicely, but if you want to take it one step further, you can install dimmers to control the brightness and use pendants with fabric shades or opaque glass to soften the lighting. Floor lamps, bedside table lamps, and even the warm glow of candles or fairy lights (which, in our opinion, are a winter bedroom staple!) can give you the added warmth you need to transform your space – adding a sense of calm to see you through cold winter nights. Get cosy with faux fur throws and cushions Nothing says winter bedroom decor like fluffy blankets and cushions, and they're the ultimate addition if you want to make your room feel warm and inviting during the colder months. Warm, cruelty-free, and easy to care for, these luxurious additions will keep you comfortable all winter long, and make your bed the ideal place for you to snuggle up with a good book or rewatch your favourite Christmas movie to get you into the spirit of things, because it's never too early! With various textures, patterns, and colours available, you're bound to find something that looks great in your space. Warm up the walls with fresh paint If you want to go OTT with your decor, why not add a fresh lick of paint? Sometimes it's all you need to transform your space, and warm, rich tones – such as terracotta, olive green, muted reds – or even a warm neutral colour palette or moody blues and dark greys – can prevent your room from feeling clinical and cold as the temperature drops outside. Incorporate natural elements Adding natural elements, like wood and plants, can help create a soothing, grounding atmosphere, allowing you to bring the best of the outdoors in. Incorporate decor like woven baskets and wooden picture frames, linen fabrics, and seasonal fresh flowers, or even faux greenery, to bring a touch of texture and colour to your bedroom. Beat the winter blues with a TV bed As the temperature drops, having a cosy, perfect winter bedroom makes all the difference, and the ultimate addition – be it a gift to yourself or a loved one – is a TV bed. We have a range of options available, here at TV Bed, so there's something to suit every space. Whether you're binging the latest Netflix release, playing video games, or catching up on reality TV, you can do it in comfort and style. Level up your space: Top 5 tips for creating the ultimate bedroom gaming setup
Multi-functional spaces are all the rage in 2025, and what better way to lean into the trend than with a bedroom that doubles as your gaming space? There are plenty of ways you can upgrade your setup to give you the best of both worlds, from gaming desks and mini fridges to LED lights and even gaming TV beds. So gamers, listen up! In this article, our experts at TV Bed share their top tips to help you create the ultimate gaming bedroom that combines comfort, functionality, and style for an experience like no other. Start with the centrepiece: a gaming TV bed If you want to enjoy extended gaming sessions, but don’t want to leave the warmth and comfort of your bed, a TV gaming bed is the ideal solution. Delivering the perfect blend of functionality and aesthetics, our gaming TV beds allow you to get comfortable and game in style, whilst offering a space-saving solution for all your consoles, wires, and other accessories. These beds also feature a range of built-in features – like dual USB charging ports and retractable headphone holders – to take your gaming experience to the next level. Choose the right screen size One of the most crucial parts of getting a TV bed is the screen size you choose, as it affects room aesthetics, viewing experiences, and your overall comfort. A screen that’s too large can be overwhelming, or worse, cause neck and eye strain when viewed from close up in bed, while a smaller screen might limit immersion. But how do you choose the perfect screen size? The ideal screen size depends on the size of your space and viewing distance, as well as your personal preference for a comfortable (and functional!) entertainment setup. Our Merlin Gaming TV Bed can comfortably accommodate any modern TV up to 43 inches, so keep this in mind when shopping. Optimise your storage space From chargers and controllers to headsets, games, and the console itself, being a gamer requires you to free up plenty of storage space. But of course, this won’t be a problem with a TV gaming bed. As we touched on earlier, these beds are the ideal space-saving solution for smaller rooms, featuring built-in ottoman storage for you to keep all of your essentials within reach. Of course, you could continue cramming everything in your desk drawer, but if you want to keep your setup to a minimum, a gaming bed with TV is definitely the way to go. Set the mood with lighting Atmospheric lighting is a must in every gamer’s room. LED strip lights and neon wall lights are a popular option – illuminating your space without stealing your focus away from the game. Again, there’s no need for you to search for this separately, as our TV gaming bed comes with built-in, colour-changing LED lights to add the ambience. Don’t forget to accessorise! Extended gaming sessions require good posture and comfort, so investing in quality bedding and cushions, like one of our BedPal XL Bed Chairs, for example, is key. To accessorise your room even further, add bedside tables, like the matching Merlin Side Units, to keep all your necessities within easy reach, and consider extras like blackout curtains, mini fridges, and memorabilia to inject some personality into your new space. Need expert advice? Creating the ultimate gaming bedroom setup is about the right balance of comfort, function, and design. If you need help designing the ideal space or would like to know more about our gaming TV beds at TV Bed, we’re here for you. How to make a bedroom look bigger
les hIf you’ve got a small bedroom, then you’ll know just how cramped and uncomfortable they can feel. There’s next to no storage space, mess builds up quickly, and decorating is particularly difficult. Luckily, though, there a several clever design tricks you can use to make your space appear larger and more inviting. Whether you're working with limited space or just want to make your bedroom feel more open, our experts at TV Bed share their top tips for making your bedroom look bigger. Use light colours for walls and furniture One of the easiest ways to make your bedroom feel larger is to opt for soft, neutral tones for walls and furniture. Whites, light greys, and soft pastels reflect light, making the space feel airier and much more expansive. Try to avoid heavy, dark colours or overbearing patterns as much as possible, as they can make a room feel more enclosed. Maximise natural light Natural light works wonders in small areas, and a well-lit room will always feel bigger and more inviting! If you’re dealing with a closed-in feel, keep windows clear of heavy curtains, and instead opt for lightweight sheer curtains or blinds to allow more natural light to flow through your room. Keep furniture to a minimum and choose pieces that work smarter Clutter is one of the biggest culprits in making a space feel smaller. Of course, if you have limited square footage, it makes most sense to opt for fewer pieces of furniture and ensure that each item serves a functional purpose. When shopping around, look for pieces with built-in storage to reduce visual clutter, and consider choosing pieces that sit off the floor, like floating shelves and beds with raised frames, to create the illusion of more space. Likewise, by combining a comfortable bed with a built-in television that rises and retracts at the touch of a button, a TV bed saves space by eliminating the need for a separate TV stand or media console. What’s more, with their clean, sleek design, they contribute to a minimalist aesthetic, helping your room feel less cluttered and more spacious whilst bringing a welcome touch of luxury. For a stylish, functional solution for your bedroom, explore our range of TV beds online today! Hang mirrors to reflect space If you want to visually expand your room, don’t underestimate the power of simply hanging a mirror. Place a large mirror on one wall to reflect light and create the illusion of a larger space, and experiment with groups of smaller mirrors around the rest of the room to create a stylish, contemporary feel. Use vertical space wisely Walls offer valuable storage space, particularly in smaller bedrooms. So, consider installing shelves above your bed or desk space for books, plants, and other decor. Unleashing the power of sound: How audio contributes to your viewing pleasure
Cosy blankets. Fresh popcorn. The big screen all to yourself… Nothing beats an at-home movie night. However, when it comes to creating the ultimate cinema experience in the comfort of your own home, sound is just as important as the visuals, and no matter if you’re watching the latest horror or settling down with your favourite sitcom, immersive audio makes all the difference. But great sound doesn’t just belong in our living rooms. In this blog, our experts at TV Bed explore the importance of a good sound setup for your at-home film nights and how a surround sound TV bed could be the perfect addition to your space. Why does sound matter? The spine-tingling suspense of a thriller. The rumbling of an action scene. The quiet whispered line that reels you in. Sound plays a huge part in how we experience shows, movies, and video games - especially in the bedroom, where you’re closer to the screen and speakers. With a TV bed, especially one equipped with True Sound 5.1 or Dolby Atmos surround sound, you can feel every moment with your favourite characters, and turn casual watching into a full-on sensory experience. What’s the difference between True Sound 5.1 and Dolby Atmos sound? Speaking of True Sound and Dolby Atmos, these are two names that stand out in the world of immersive audio. Both deliver impressive surround sound, theatre-like experiences, but they do so in slightly different ways. Whilst True Sound 5.1 systems use five strategically placed speakers and a subwoofer to place you at the centre of the action, Dolby Atmos systems add a vertical dimension by simulating overhead sound, creating a 3D, room-filling effect. Advantages of surround sound TV beds Immersive experience Whichever surround sound TV bed you choose, an immersive at-home cinema experience is guaranteed, thanks to the speaker system built into the frame. You’ll feel in on all the action, and the best part is, you don’t even have to move from your bed! Clear dialogue Surround sound TV beds, particularly those equipped with True Sound 5.1 technology, provide a clear and direct path for dialogue, thanks to the central speaker. This speaker also ensures that dialogue sounds come directly from the screen, rather than off to the side, which again, places you front and centre with all your favourite characters – guaranteeing you don't miss a word. Balanced sound By accurately capturing a range of high and low frequency sounds, both Dolby Atmos and True Sound 5.1 systems provide beautifully balanced sound when watching movies or TV shows, playing video games, or streaming your favourite songs. Versatility With both HDMI and Bluetooth connectivity options, both True Sound and Dolby Atmos systems can be used to enhance sound whilst streaming music from your phone, playing games on your console, or catching up on your favourite TV shows. Deep sleep debunked (and why your mattress matters)
From suspending all tech use an hour before bedtime, to getting more exercise during the day, there are many things we can do to help us get a better night’s sleep. Perhaps one of the biggest influences on our quality of shut-eye, though, is our mattress. It definitely has a lot to answer for, and picking the right one pays in many different ways beyond sleep. In this blog, our experts at TV Bed discuss the reasons why choosing the right mattress matters, and share some of our top recommendations for the most comfortable night’s rest. Why is a good night’s sleep so important? It’s no secret how vital a good night’s sleep is. As an adult, you should be getting between 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night to help your body recover from the day’s stresses, and to help prepare your body for the day that awaits. Not getting enough shut-eye can result in mood swings (or low mood in general), reduced focus, weakened immunity, and even long-term health problems like obesity, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. So, how can my mattress impact the quality of my sleep? As we’ve touched upon, your mattress can have a huge impact on the quality of your sleep in a number of different ways, which can include: Spinal support and alignment A good mattress has a huge influence on how well your spine aligns during sleep, keeping it in a neutral position and relieving pressure on your back, hips, and shoulders. An old, sagging mattress doesn’t offer nearly half as much support, and can lead to restless nights, muscle strain, and over time, chronic pain, making it more difficult to drift off. Pressure point relief Some types of mattresses, particularly those made with memory foam, help distribute your weight more evenly, which helps to relieve built-up pressure in sensitive areas like the shoulders, hips, lower back, and knees. Temperature regulation The importance of a cool environment for sleep should never be underestimated, and some mattresses are made with built-in technology to help you better control and maintain your body temperature by allowing airflow and preventing overheating. Pain relief If you struggle with back, neck, and joint pain, a good orthopaedic mattress could be the answer to all your problems. By helping you correct your posture, a supportive mattress will help alleviate pain and ensure a better night’s sleep. Allergy control If you’re an allergy sufferer, be it in summer or year-round, a hypoallergenic mattress made with latex or other memory foam could be a huge help. This material is great for resisting dust and other allergens, and contributes to a much healthier sleeping environment. How do I choose the right mattress? The right mattress for you depends on several different factors, from your body type, weight, and sleeping position, to your budget and any unique features you’d like your mattress to have.
